Connaught Bowls Club, Attleborough, had a quiet return after the holiday to short mat league competition with one match for Connaught 'B' in the Breckland League.

Connaught 'B' showed signs of festive over-indulgence with a listless display against Hingham Yellow in the Breckland League. Connaught 'B' drew 68-68 on shots but lost 3-7 on points against a side which they had beaten away from home just before Christmas. A Marshall 12-13, R Maddern 13-21, Philomena King 23-25, R Ramm 20-9. Connaught 'B' fielded one temporary combination, which kept things reasonably tight, but had enough ability and experience in the side to have won 8-2. Ralf Ramm's triple played very well to earn Connaught 3 points but in general the side did not show the concentration and tactical awareness necessary to win a close match.

With the season just past the halfway point Connaught's teams are putting in solid performances, but it is premature to talk of winning honours. In the Breckland League Connaught 'A' have a 100% winning record but trail Wymondham by dint of winning matches more narrowly. Connaught 'B' stand securely mid-table and despite the occasional blip have shown more determination than in recent years. Connaught's mixed strength side stands second in the South Norfolk League which continues to be dominated by the strong Hempnall club. Similarly the small Tens League is dominated by Bob Carter and Hempnall but Connaught's squad is holding its own. Both Connaught 'A' and Connaught 'B' have won through early rounds of the County and Norwich Cup competitions and are looking forward to derby matches against Wymondham.
