Nine members of Wymondham AC were amongst the 36,000 competitors in Sunday's London Marathon.

The race started in perfect running conditions and the later rain did not dampen spirits or affect running performances.

The fantastic support from the crowds along the 26.2-mile route was a great help to the competitors.

After endless winter nights of pounding the streets of Wymondham in preparation for the big day, the hard-training finally paid off.

Three runners set personal best times over the distance reducing their previous running best by huge margins. Lucy Perry (4-33:32) improved her time from last year by an incredible 49 minutes, Tanya Crofts (3-26:44) by 34 minutes and Eddie Greenland (3-21:19) by 20 minutes. Tanya's time is also a new Senior Lady club record.

The previous record for that category was set by Janet Hunter in 1989 and remained unbeaten for 19 years.

Terry Epps (3-07:17), although outside his pb, improved his time from last year by four minutes and was again the first Wymondham runners to cross the finish line.

He was followed by Roger Beardmore (3-12:13) and Eddie Greenland (3-21:19).

Kirsty Daynes and Caroline Carr, both competing in their first marathon, helped each other along the way and reached the finish line in 4-24:08 and 4-25:38 respectively.

Both were running for the Lisa Thaxter Trust which supports children suffering from cancer.

The knowledge that their efforts were raising funds for a worthwhile cause encouraged them along.

Other Wymondham runners were Dean Phillips (4-47:08) and Judie Ingham (5-01:08).

Wymondham AC meets every Monday at 6.30pm at the Rugby Club off Tuttles Lane.
