IT was a good week for Wymondham RFC with the first team getting a step closer to the Division One title and also reaching the final of the Woodfordes Norfolk Cup.

Wymondham all but secured the Eastern Counties Division One title when they comfortably beat nearest rivals Wisbech on home turf 29-0.

The victory moves the county's only unbeaten side 10 points clear at the top of the league and, with Wisbech only having six matches remaining, the leaders are well on course for promotion.

Early on No 8 Andy Nelson broke from a scrummage on halfway.

He fed Adam Cussens who exchanged passes with winger Will Mitchell before galloping home to score. Jonny Wyatt was successful with the conversion.

Fly-half Nick Greenhall then danced his way through the defence and tighthead prop Lee Summers drove over to record unconverted tries.

The home side were now in full swing and Jack Peacock rounded off a well-orchestrated backs move after Wyatt had made a searing break through the centres. Wyatt's touchline conversion made it 24-0.

With injuries to contend with Wymondham put up arguably their best forward performance of the season in the second half.

A charged-down kick led to a well-deserved try for Mark Unstead.

Wymondham and Norwich fielded development sides in the Woodfordes Norfolk Cup semi-final, won by Wymondham 24-0.

Despite good pressure from both sides the first half was scoreless, but Wymondham came out the stronger after the interval and took a 6-0 lead after two Peacock penalties.

The Wymondham pack then seemed to find another gear and man-of-the-match Tony Wishart finally breached the visitors' line.

Aidy Ball was making good yards with the boot for Norwich, but the home team's continuity made further scores inevitable. Adam Cussens cut back to score and then Richard Howlett stripped the ball from the Norwich wing and ran through to touch down.

Wymondham now meet fellow high-fliers Diss in a fortnight's time in the final.
