Boost for Hethersett title hopes

Hethersett and Tas Valley took another giant step towards the Norfolk Alliance Division Three title despite ending their long-running winning streak at the weekend.

Hethersett and Tas Valley took another giant step towards the Norfolk Alliance Division Three title despite ending their long-running winning streak at the weekend.

Valley scored a vital winning draw against fellow promotion chasers Great Witchingham and, with second-placed Horsford also dropping points, Hethersett are now three points clear of Horsford with a game in hand and 22 points clear of Witchingham. This weekend while Hethersett are home to Thetford, Witchingham and Horsford lock horns.

Hethersett notched 186-9 in a game restricted to 35 overs by the weather. There were good contributions all round with Carl Puttock (25), Nick Burrett (53), Matt Ellis (36), Simon Redhead (23) and Jack Smith (19). Witchingham replied with

138-7 with Julian Emeny taking 3-37.

H&TV's second XI's game against Brooke was called off. The side are now clear in second place in Division Five, eight points ahead of third-placed Brooke. This week they visit Dereham Seconds.

H&TV Thirds went down by 32 runs to Shipdham II. Shipdham scored 196-9 with Mark Worley taking 3-47. Hethersett replied with 164 all out with Stuart Cooper scoring 41. This week the thirds are home to Garboldisham. Hethersett Sunday lost to North Runcton by 182 runs in the Mid-Norfolk League. North Runcton smashed 310-8 and Hethersett were all out for 128 with Stuart Cooper unbeaten on 69.
