Attleborough Town survived a late scare to take all three points against a previously unbeaten Bungay side in Anglian Combination Division One.

Boro welcomed new signing Mark Allibone on to the bench after he had completed his transfer from local rivals Watton in midweek.

It was the away team whot started the better of the two sides although Whitman missed a glorious chance to fire Boro ahead.

Guinness then made a couple of fine saves to keep the scores level before Boro managed to break the deadlock. A superb switched long ball from Brown found Rivett who took it in his stride and sent in a great cross for Whitman to poke home.

Boro started the second half in much improved fashion, with Mann and J Carr working tirelessly to win the ball back in midfield and set the forwards on the attack. They were soon rewarded for their efforts as a Venables corner somehow curled its way in at the far post, taking the defender's tally to an impressive five goals for the season.

Then a Bungay set-piece was blocked by Venables and as appeals for handball were waved away Rivett broke free and played a fine long pass into the path of Flynn who cut in on his favoured left foot and unleashed a powerful strike into the bottom corner.

The game looked over as a contest but with five minutes left the Bungay winger managed to travel into the Boro penalty box where he was met by a strong diving challenge from Venables. Much to the hosts' dismay the referee awarded a spot-kick and the Bungay player made no mistake.

The final minutes of the game saw panic setting in as Bungay threw men forward. M Carr failed to hold the ball in the corner and a number of missed challenges resulted in a Bungay forward being sent through on goal.

M Smith dived in to bring him down and concede another penalty, earning himself his second yellow of the game. Bungay converted the spot-kick and with a minute to play, the final whistle couldn't come soon enough.

Boro travel to Cabbell Park to take on struggling Cromer Town this Saturday, 2.30pm.

Wymondham Town, who were without a game at the weekend, return to action at Mundford on Saturday in a clash between sixth and second.
