Attleborough Town travelled to bottom of the table Cromer Town expecting to boost their goal difference.

But instead the visitors encountered a home side ready to battle their way through 90 minutes to improve their fortunes and had to settle for a 3-1 win.

After pressing in the early stages when both Jack Flynn and Dan Whitman both went close, it was Greg Mann who opened the scoring with a 15th minute strike from 12 yards.

Just five minutes further in and Boro almost made it two when Whitman's header from Kieran Brown's cross thundered against the bar with the home keeper a spectator.

However the home team, with a packed defence, continued to thwart further efforts and on 38 minutes a right wing free-kick from Liam Clayton was cleared to the lone Cromer frontman Michal Lewandowski and he amazingly put the home side back on level terms with a spectacular 40 yard lob over a surprised Josh Guinness.

Despite all their domination, Boro went in level at the break.

Although playing up the Cabbell Park slope, Boro again kept up their momentum as the second half started. However, some dogged and determined Cromer defending ccontinued to frustrate them.

Mann eventually put the visitors back in front on the hour and had a glorious chance of a hat- trick on 75 minutes but the Cromer Keeper had other ideas as he superbly saved the spot-kick. Nerves increased in the Boro dug-out as the minutes ticked away as a slender 2-1 lead was never going to be comfortable and the home side pressed further up the field searching for a second equaliser in the dying minutes.

Fortunately, Jamie Venables was the Boro winner as his side conjured up a second penalty with just two minutes remaining to secure three vital points.

The win saw Boro move up to second in the table, their highest position for a decade.
