THE coming week could shape Hethersett Athletic Saturday team's season.

On Saturday they recorded their eighth consecutive win in the Crown Fire South and Central League Division Three, but stay just outside the promotion places just a point behind second-placed Castle Acre with a game in hand.

Their 3-0 win over lowly Hindolveston was perhaps more comfortable than the score suggests with the home team scarcely having a shot on target.

Hethersett had one or two players carrying minor knocks with key player Mark Lance being substituted and striker Danny Gray only playing the last 20 minutes as a precaution before the Pease League Cup final against Castle Acre, which was due to be played last night.

Hethersett scorers were James Loughlin, making a welcome return to the side, Chris Kew and Adam Waters.

Three wins from their remaining games against Gressenhall Reserves (away), Sporle (home) and Northwold (home) will guarantee promotion and, with a vastly superior goal difference to Castle Acre, Hethersett realistically need seven points.

If leaders Bradenham Wanderers drop points in their final game of the season, three wins for Hethersett would give them their second successive league title after winning Division Four last season.

Club chairman Peter Steward said: 'After Saturday's games we will have a clear picture of whether second place is a reality. The ball is in our court as we know three more wins will see us promoted,'

Hethersett Sunday A's home game against Felmingham was postponed after their opponents failed a raise a team.

Hethersett Girls U14 consolidated their runners-up slot in the Norfolk Girls' League with a 5-0 win over Spixworth. Sophie Rock scored four and the excellent Ella Stephenson added a fifth.

Hethersett U14 beat Mattishall 4-1 thanks to two goals from James Burton, one from top scorer Will Foster and an own goal.

Hethersett U12 visited Norman and came away with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Ashley Gray and Guy Peres.

Hethersett U11 visited Rocklands and went down 7-2 with their goals coming from Jack Freeman and Harry Denny.

Hethersett U9 beat Jex 4-0 thanks to two goals from Ben Lacey and one each from Cameron Whiting and Thomas Yeomans. They then lost 6-0 to Firside.
