A club record that has stood for 24 years was broken on Saturday by Great Melton A's batsmen Sam Mann and Joey Greenslade.

The record partnership of 244 between James Hipperson and Simon Woods was eclipsed by Mann and Greenslade who produced a second wicket stand of 249.

And Woods was there to witness it as his resurgent A team won their fourth game in a row, beating Mattishall by 68 runs. Mann top-scored with a brilliant 146 filled with an array of attacking shots while Greenslade's innings was more measured yet just as effective as he carried his bat for 107. It meant that Mattishall were left to rue their decision to field first as Melton totalled 284-3. In response, despite good contributions from Olly Hood (28), Michael Trewhella (35), Jack Chetwood (28) and Keenan Stokes (46), no Mattishall batsmen was able to make the sizeable score needed. There were wickets for Marcus Mawby (1-31), David Bunn (2-34), Joe Bickel (2-35) and Matt Henderson (1-36) as the visitors finished on 216-7.

The first team continued their excellent start to the season by dismissing North Runcton A for just 67 which they chased down for the loss of three wickets. Young spin bowler Tom Moye took four wickets while Melton's reply was spearheaded by Lee Whiddett (24) and Richard Wood (23 not out). It makes it five out of five for Olly Harris's men and keeps them at the top of Division Three.

The Bs and Cs were hit by unavailability throughout the club and the Bs had to draft in several youngsters for their visit to a strong Halvergate side. A century for Perry Kelf and 88 not out by Luke Hannant allowed the home team to score 227-3. Melton finished on a respectable 167-4 after their 45 overs with Connor Stearman scoring 46 and Phil Bugg 44.

The C team pulled off an excellent victory over Blundeston A ,scoring 207-9 at Town Close before bowling out the visitors for 70. Matt Rushton, who helped out by playing half a game before rushing off to a concert, scored 79, Duncan Greenslade 34, Dale Weston 26 and young Saxon Earley 24 while the Westons did the damage with the ball, Dale taking 4-21 and son Kyle 3-16.

With the U15s picking up their first win of the season by beating Garboldisham by five wickets it means that the B team are the only Melton side still searching for their first victory.
