WYMONDHAM'S hopes of an end-of-year success were dashed at Beef Meadow on Saturday with Beccles dominating the set-pieces, providing a platform for a hard-fought 18-3 victory.

Throughout the game Wymondham were clearly under pressure from the powerful Beccles pack with the visitors conceding at least a stone

per man. However, Wymondham's defence was both offensive and aggressive, denying Beccles few opportunities during the half.

Two penalties, one from Luke Wade and one from debutant Tom Wilson, kept both sides honest leading up to half-time.

Crucially, as Wymondham looked to absorb a sustained Beccles attack, their defence let them down with Dave Rix scoring a converted try giving Beccles a half-time lead.

Wymondham, fielding a young team that, all bar one, have come through Wymondham's youth programme, looked to take the game to the more experienced Beccles side in the second half but they were unable to break the home side down.

In the end it was Beccles once again who began to take command.

Wymondham's hopes were finally sunk in the mud at Beef Meadow by one of Beccles' three overseas

players, New Zealander Sam Williamson, as he chipped over the Wymondham defence to round off an excellent individual effort

Wymondham finished strongly but failed breach the home defence.

Referee Phil Davies was extremely complimentary following Wymondham's eighth away defeat - scant comfort for the players who battled in vain throughout.
