Children and staff at Browick Road infant school in Wymondham are celebrating after a glowing Ofsted inspection labelled it an outstanding school outstandingly led by head teacher Daryl Long and her staff.

The school , attended by 215 children, was visited by Ofsted early last month and given an outstanding rating in 24 out of the 27 categories marked in its newly-published assessment.

Lead inspector Sue Hall has written to children to say she thinks their school is providing an excellent quality of education and that they behave very well and try very hard when at school.

Ms Hall's report began: "This is an outstanding school. Children really enjoy their time here and thrive. A key feature of why the school does so well is the outstanding leadership of the headteacher and senior staff. Parents are very pleased with the quality of care and education provided. One summarises the opinions of many when stating, 'Couldn't ask for more! Excellent!'"

Headteacher Daryl Long said: “I am absolutely delighted for our pupils and our staff who work so hard together to make this school a truly special place. I am thrilled that Ofsted has recognised the excellent progress our children are making and our firm stance on attendance has been praised.

"I am thrilled that Ofsted has acknowledged the excellent development our pupils make and that our children are learning to read and write very well and confidently solve mathematical problems. The aim of our school is to nurture, educate and encourage all students to reach their full potential in all aspects of life. I feel this report is a very positive endorsement of that approach."

David Osborne, Head of Primary School Development at Norfolk County Council, added: "We're delighted with the outcome of this inspection because it shows that the children at Browick Road, and their families, are getting a really good education. It's a great credit to everyone involved with the school, and really shows what's possible with good teaching, good leadership and good support. We will continue to work with every school to help them achieve similar outcomes in the future."

Mrs Long added that the school was addressing the issue raised by Ofsted of stretching the children of higher ability, pointing out that school results over the past five years showed achievements by children already to be significantly higher than the national average.
