A LIVING willow sculpture will be opened on Easter Monday overlooking the River Tiffey at Becketswell in Wymondham.

It has been designed and constructed by Norfolk artist Kate Munro as part of the Tiffey Trails project to celebrate the heritage of the valley through the arts.

She has been working with applied art GCSE students from Wymondham High School who helped with the design and selection of the site for the open-work sculpture with linked arches, which takes its shape from the abbey windows. It will eventually be covered with climbing plants.

"It has been fun to work with the students and take them through some of the processes involved in siting and designing a piece of artwork for a public open space, getting the necessary funding and permissions and thinking about future maintenance.

"We discussed many possibilities in the classroom and on site, and I think the agreed form and location, with views across the river to the abbey, will make an original contribution to this attractive place," she said

Town mayor Len Elston will perform the opening ceremony at 2pm. There will be folk music to add to the occasion which coincides with the annual abbey duck race at Becketswell.
