London-based Barton Willmore has submitted a planning application on behalf of Pelham Holdings for a new sustainable mixed use “urban extension” to the south of the town.
Last night 280 people attended an extraordinary meeting of Wymondham Town Council and a poll of attendees showed all were against the proposal.
Concerns raised included the scale of the proposed development, the lack of existing services such as schools and medical facilities and the strain the development would have on the town's infrastructure.
Following a question-and-answer session, Wymondham Town Council unanimously recommended the scheme be refused.
Grounds included that the proposed scheme is outside the current development boundary and would divide the town into two communities and would have an unacceptable strain on the town's infrastructure and facilities.
