Brighter Wymondham Group was thrilled when more than 130 volunteers turned up at four venues across the town to begin a community clear-up.

Representatives from WyNG (Wymondham Nature Group), the town council, Guides, Cubs, Scouts and Beavers, the U3A and the Wymondham High School Green Team plus lots of local residents turned up.

A staggering 780 kg… more than ¾ tonne of litter and waste was collected from around the town including a gas bottle and a bike.

The town's Waitrose store awarded £50 to the 2nd Scouts group, judged to have made the most impact on the day, and a chocolate hamper to Ruth Parsons and her group as they had collected the most rubbish.

Oaktree Partnership in Wymondham donated a further £150 worth of prizes as there were so many more individuals and families than expected. Huge efforts were also made on the day at Ashleigh School by staff and volunteers to tidy up the sensory garden and create a new “mud-play” area.

Mayor Len Elston said: "It is great to see so many families and groups getting involved and take a pride in their community."
