A consultation aimed at shaping the future of services for older people in Norfolk is under way.

And a number of events are also being held around the county as part of the “More Choices, Better Choices” initiative which will seek people's views on supported day opportunities, sheltered housing and housing support, residential care, social care and services for carers.

The survey comes as the charity Age Concern is calling for a radical reform of the system that offers care to the elderly.

The Norfolk County Council consultation comes as the number of people aged 65-plus in Norfolk is expected to rise by another 83,000 over the next 15 years, bringing the total number up to 260,500.

The council wants to hear from people who are 55 and over to take part in the consultation along with carers, voluntary organisations, providers of services and staff working with older people.

Events, between 10am and 3pm, will be at the Recreation and Social Centre, Bridewell Lane, Acle (May 6); Anglia Square Shopping Centre, Norwich (May 7); Community Centre, New Road, North Walsham (May 8); Central Hall, Wymondham (May 10); Town Hall, Downham Market (May 12); Community Centre, Swaffham (May 13); Jubilee Hall, Loddon (May 15); Friendship Hall, Aylsham (May 19); Salvation Army Hall, Fakenham (May 20); Community Centre, Holt (May 29).
