Tudors back in residence at Abbey!

Wymondham Abbey opened its doors to 250 students from Wymondham High School this week for a Tudor re-enactment.The Year 8 pupils have been finding out about the events that led up to the closure of the Abbey by order of King Henry VIII in 1538.

The Year 8 pupils have been finding out about the events that led up to the closure of the Abbey by order of King Henry VIII in 1538.

A group of re-enactors and musicians dressed in Tudor costume and took on the roles of Abbot Eligius, royal agent John Flowerdew, and townspeople such as innkeepers, minstrels with authentic instruments of the period, farmers, a nun and a beggar.

Pupils questioned the characters about their attitude to the monastery and whether or not it should be closed. The event ran yesterdsay and will be taking place today and tomorrow .
