ATTLEBOROUGH youngsters can get busy in the kitchen after a gift from the town's Sainsbury's store.

Pavilion Pre-school Nursery and Out of School Club have been given a cooking kit containing over 100 pieces of equipment including mixing bowls, weighing scales, aprons, spatulas, sieves, chopping boards, wooden spoons, baking trays, cooling racks and many other items.

Vera Dale, from the Pavilion Pre-School Nursery and out of school club, said: “The active kids cooking set was wonderful. We cook on a regular basis and to date we have baked biscuits and are planning cakes for this week. The children can now enjoy a more practical cooking experience with enough equipment for everybody.”

Research has shown that more than nine in ten teachers fear that the next generation will be incapable of serving a home cooked meal. The Sainsbury's report based on a study conducted among 1,585 children, parents and teachers, shows that less than half of today's children (46pc) can identify a ladle or a spatula and a quarter (25pc) believe sauté is a type of French dance. However, nearly all (94pc) recognise a microwave.
