A community group has raised hundreds of pounds to support students in surrounding schools.

The Rotary Club of Diss Waveney held a fundraising quiz night in support of Dictionaries4Life at Palgrave Community Centre, with 11 teams of experts and novices competing for the top prize.

The quiz night had the aim of raising money to supply Year five pupils in eight surrounding primary schools with their own copy of The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary.

In total £470 was raised on the night and this will be doubled by Rotary Foundation charity money.

Diss Waveney Club president, Janet Turner, said she was very pleased with the success of the quiz night and the amount of money raised.

“The money raised has exceeded the expected target and has enable the club to provide even more dictionaries next year,” she said.

The Dictionaries4Life Project is a part of the Rotary International Literacy Initiative which aims to boost the literacy skills.
