Children from Attleborough Junior School enjoyed an exciting few days helping to survey the River Glaven in north Norfolk.As part of their annual trip to Holt Hall, 101 Year 6 students followed the river from its source near Holt to its mouth at Cley, taking observations along the way.
Children from Attleborough Junior School enjoyed an exciting few days helping to survey the River Glaven in north Norfolk.
As part of their annual trip to Holt Hall, 101 Year 6 students followed the river from its source near Holt to its mouth at Cley, taking observations along the way.
Teacher Sarah Coppard said: “It's an ideal way of meeting the objectives of the geography, science and PE curriculum in a real-life, fun and practical way. The children develop a sense of independence and responsibility, learn about the features of rivers, take measurements and occasionally get wet! It broadens their understanding of the environment and they need to use both thinking and physical skills to overcome challenges.”
The children also learned about woodland habitats and food chains and took part in orienteering, which taught them to use a map and compass.
