Plans to build new homes on land next to a former school have moved a significant step forward after a land deal between the district council and developers.
Work to build 10 new homes on a site next to the former Chapel Road Primary School in Attleborough will shortly get underway, after the land was purchased by a partnership involving Breckland Council and developers The Land Group.
Breckland Bridge, the innovative joint venture partnership between the council and developer, is to build the dwellings on the 0.57-acre site at the corner of Cyprus Road.
Chapel Road Primary closed when the new £14m Chapel Green School for pupils with complex needs opened in Old Buckenham. The adjacent land had been rented by the school from Breckland Council and occasionally used as a sports field.

Breckland Bridge, a partnership that has previously delivered a housing scheme in Mileham and the £8m leisure complex in Thetford, waited to complete the sale until the school relocated to Old Buckenham, which took place over the summer.
The sale means construction work can begin on the site, which has already been granted planning permission, from this autumn. Designed by Hoopers Architects in Ipswich it will comprise two detached homes and eight two and three bedroom terraced homes.
Paul Hewett, Breckland Council's executive member for contracts and assets, said: "I'm delighted construction will get underway in the near future. The new houses will help to meet local demand for new homes and make good use of a now disused site. This also contributes to the council's vision to ensure the district develops and thrives."
David Winch, director of The Land Group, said: "We are pleased to announce that we have issued formal instructions to Wellington Construction to now proceed with the construction contract. We are convinced that this residential scheme will be a popular and attractive addition to the town landscape for house buyers in and around the popular town of Attleborough."
Wellington Construction is a long established residential and commercial construction company based in Lowestoft.
Director James Denny said: "We are sure that we will deliver an outstanding project in Attleborough which will appeal to the housing market. We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract."
