The throaty roar of six powerful Merlin engines filled the air as the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight thrilled crowds at Old Buckenham Air Show.

The display by the historic spitfire, hurricane and Lancaster was one of the main highlights, and hundreds of cameras clicked in unison on Sunday as the three aircraft circled overhead for a final 'photo call' at the end of the performance.

Airfield manager William Layzell said: “It's all going very well. We have got a good crowd, the weather is fine, it's quarter past three and people are still coming through the gates. The profits go to East Anglia's Children's Hospices and there is a raffle for a flight in a Stearman as a prize and a flight in a Virgin balloon. But we won't know how much will be raised until we have paid all the bills.”

Mr Layzell estimated there could be as many as 5,000 people attending, and many had brought fold up chairs and picnics to make it a real family day out.
