A 13-year-old from Norfolk has been named one of the best young drivers in the country.

Luke Lightowler, from Shropham, near Attleborough, reached the finals of the Young Driver Challenge, at the NEC, Birmingham, as one of 23 hand-picked finalists for his age range.

Young Driver, provider of pre-17 driving lessons, scored the teens after an instructed lesson.

Drivers were judged on driving skills, reversing, parking, manoeuvring, handling junctions and independent driving.

Luke said: "I was really pleased to have made the final from hundreds of entries and I'm really proud of how I performed on the day.

"The instructors put us to the test with lots of driving challenges, but it was good fun and a great opportunity to practise my skills behind the wheel."

TV presenters Vicki Butler-Henderson and Quentin Willson watched over the competitors before handing out prizes.

Luke won a 60-minute Young Driver gift voucher, medal and signed copy of Mr Willson's latest book: Learn to Drive without Tears and Tantrums.
