AMATEUR dramatic group Old Buckenham Players have been celebrating their success in a national festival with their production of Snake in the Grass by Alan Ayckbourn.

First shown in Old Buckenham Village Hall last month, the group entered the Felixstowe National Drama Festival at the end of May as the concluding play in the eight day Festival. It was with some trepidation that the small cast took to the boards on the huge stage of the Spa Pavilion Felixstowe facing the 900 seater auditorium.

The experienced trio of Margaret White, Jennie Harrison and Sharon Butcher were at the top of their game with a measured interpretation which won great praise from the adjudicator.

Those who caught the show at Old Buckenham would have been impressed at the work of set designers, Chris Morter and Paul Reavey. The festival adjudicator awarded the trophy for best set to Old Buckenham commenting: “This was a superb set - indeed, one of the very best I have seen in festival conditions”.

The production also came third overall and as the adjudicator noted: “It made a notable conclusion to a great week of theatre”.

The director and cast were elated at receiving such acclaim with their first entry into a national festival and director Chris Morter said: “I am delighted that we were able to achieve such a lot with relatively little resources and I would like to thank all the people who supported us. Let's look forward to next year!”
