There has been a significant reduction in the number of complaints about the leisure centre at Wymondham since the district council took over responsibility for its management.

During 2006/07 the council received more than 1,000 complaints about poor service and cleanliness at the facility.

However, between April 2007 and April 2008, the council received a total of just 25 recorded complaints relating to its three facilities at Diss, Long Stratton and Wymondham - all of which have been operated in-house since April last year. There were also two suggestions and three compliments.

Sixteen of the complaints specifically related to swimming activities and the booking system for swimming lessons, particularly at Wymondham. The effect of initial changes introduced resulted in long queuing periods as large numbers of children were re-booked onto lessons by their parents, and staffing levels proved inadequate to cope.

The system has now been reviewed to include a booking weekend to accommodate the needs of all users which is being trialled this month.
