Hundreds of people have taken the opportunity to recycle their unwanted items at an event organised by South Norfolk Council.

The public were invited to bring their unneeded belongings to Kett’s Park, Wymondham, where the second-hand items of others were free to be claimed.

Any items left behind were sent to be recycled.

Furniture, books, electronics and clothes were among the two and a half tonnes of materials prevented from going to landfill.

South Norfolk cabinet member Kay Mason Billig said: “We have been holding these events for more than six years and they get busier every year. We have added to the variety of items that we can accept and we are continuing to work with local charities to ensure that it’s not just the environment that benefits from these events.”

The council’s reuse and recycle events have already been recognised nationally after being shortlisted for the Waste Prevention Award.
