AN existing house and outbuildings at Hethersett are to be demolished to make way for 18 new homes.

Applicant Gladedale (Anglian) was given detailed consent for the development on Tuesday by South Norfolk Council's area planning committee.

The site at No 9, Great Melton Road, is about 0.8 hectares and centrally located within the village.

Letters of objection were received from five local residents whose concerns included impact on adjoining properties, increased traffic, and potential loss of trees and other natural features.

However, the principle of residential development at the site had been agreed in 2005 and planning officers were in favour.

Approval conditions include protection of trees and a legal agreement to provide a minimum of 400sq metres of play area with at least two pieces of play equipment, and a public car park.
