Fight For Wymondham, the campaign group set up by Wymondham residents to oppose a plan by London developers to build 3,000 new homes in the town, is being supported by Norwich Green Party.

Green Party city councillor Adrian Holmes will be joining campaigners on the March For Wymondham which takes place on Saturday September 6 at 12 noon.

“We're delighted Adrian will be marching with us”, says Fight For Wymondham spokesperson Julie de Rohan. “He's been a firm supporter since the beginning of our campaign and we knew he wouldn't let us down.”

The protestors claim that the development proposed by Barton Willmore, on behalf of Pelham Holdings, would turn the historic town into a big urban sprawl. The application submitted to South Norfolk Council is for a new sustainable “mixed use” urban extension to the south of Wymondham with 3,000 new homes, 750 of which would be “affordable”, a business park, primary school, sixth form college, nursery and three local centres providing shops, a medical centre and other facilities.

The march will begin at Kett's Park, off Hart's Farm Road and end in the town centre with a rally in the market place at approximately 1.15pm. People can pledge their intention to march by e-mailing supporter@fightforwymondham.com or phoning 07766 287 233.

A poster advertising the March can be downloaded from the website.

“We're asking everyone to put a poster up in their window to show their support and to spread the word”, says march organiser David Wilkinson. “If you can't download it, give us a call and we'll make sure we get one to you. We need everyone opposed to the development out on the streets of Wymondham on September 6.”

The special Fight For Wymondham song, composed and recorded by local songwriter Trevor Ash, is now available as a download from the website.

Trevor is also calling for musicians of all ages to join a special March For Wymondham band on the day to play the song.

“We welcome any instruments as long as you can play while you march”, says Trevor, “and we can make the sheet music available if necessary”.
