Communities across the county suffered a huge soaking from heavy rain yesterday with areas around Besthorpe, Wymondham and Attleborough among the most affected.

A Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: 'In total we had approximately 40 to 50 calls spread from yesterday early afternoon right through to about 9.30pm.'

Firefighters did not need to attend all the incidents but crews were sent out to places including Morley, Suton, Wymondham, Spooner Row, Hellesdon, Dilham, North Walsham.

The spokesman said one of the most affected areas was Norwich Road and Hill Road in Besthorpe where about 10 homes were affected.

Fire crews were called out to the scene at 5pm and remained there until the early hours of the morning.

Police were also called out to the flooding in Besthorpe and advised drivers to avoid the area.

There was also flooding on the roads close to Norwich Airport and the heavy rain also caused part of the ceiling in the airport's departures lounge to collapse.

After yesterday's wet weather, the forecast for today is much drier.
