Darts star Eric Bristow helped raise more than £2,000 for a Wymondham-based cancer charity after being the special guest at a fund-raising event in the town.

More than 150 people attended the Eric Bristow Charity Darts Evening at Wymondham Rugby Club to boost funds for the Star Throwers charity.

Those lucky enough to get their names drawn in a raffle had the chance to pit their dart-throwing skills against the five-times world champion, with current circuit player Mark Hylton also treating people to several games of 501.

Inbetween games, the pair signed autographs and had their photographs taken with members of the audience.

Organiser Russell Baker, Lord Baker of Little Moulton, who lives in Bracon Ash, near Wymondham, said: 'This was indeed a truly memorable evening and the support on the night was outstanding.

'I will certainly be looking to organise similar events in future to help Star Throwers and other local charities, so watch this space.

'When you see so many people having a great time in the presence of a world darts legend, it provides great motivation and satisfaction. In fact, I think it's hugely rewarding to all involved.

'In particular I offer my thanks to everyone who attended the event and in particular my thanks to Wymondham Rugby Club, who made the location a tremendous success.'

Steven Ho, from Star Throwers, said: 'A huge thank you to Lord Baker for organising this amazing event.

'What a great evening it was. Everyone I spoke to said they were having a great time and were pleased to be supporting our cause.

'It was great fund-raising, awareness-raising and just a plain fun event.'

Andrew Kilby, chairman of Wymondham Rugby Club, added: 'This has to be one of the best atmospheres I've seen at the club since I've been a member and chairman.

'It was great to see so many different people from Wymondham and beyond at the club and, of course, the funds raised for Star Throwers were simply amazing.

'My thanks to Lord Baker for organising this amazing event and of course to Eric Bristow and Mark Hylton, who made the evening so memorable for so many people.'
