A crackdown on speeding motorists in Attleborough caught 44 driving over the limit in a single afternoon.

Norfolk Police targeted roads around the South Norfolk market town days after the problem of excessive speed was made a priority for neighbourhood policing.

In a tweet officers said they had been around town on Saturday afternoon where in total 44 offences had been detected. Locations where the speed checks were carried out included Norwich Road, London Road and Hargham Road.

They added: “It’s so disappointing to see so many drivers ignoring speed limits around Attleborough. Limits are in place to ensure the safety of all road users.”

The crackdown follows a meeting of the Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel which made speeding a new priority for the Attleborough Safer Neighbourhood Team, alongside anti-social behaviour and the problem of speeding in nearby Rockland All Saints.

A Twitter exchange over the safety of modern cars saw police add: “Cars maybe safer which helps when involved in a collision with another car, but a pedestrian or cyclist will stand a better chance of survival being hit at 30mph instead of 40mph+”
