WYMONDHAM people have a chance to put forward their views on a London developer's plan to build 3000 new homes in the town at a special meeting next week.

The town council has called an extraordinary meeting on Thursday to gauge public reaction before making its formal response to the proposals which include a new primary school, sixth form college and medical centre.

Town mayor Len Elston said: “This planning application for up to 3,000 new homes, commercial and retail outlets submitted by Barton Wilmore on behalf of Pelham homes is probably the largest ever received by South Norfolk Council, and the town council has been asked for its recommendations under the consultation process.

“It is important that the council considers the views of residents as the expansion of the town, on the scale proposed, not only affects those in south Wymondham but the whole community. In view of this, an extraordinary meeting of the council will take place on Thursday, May 1 at Central Hall commencing at 7.30pm. There will be a public participation section and I would encourage people to attend and put forward their views.”

Mr Elston is also urging people to write to the planning department at South Norfolk Council with comments, whether they are for or against the scheme.

A copy of the plans can be viewed at the town council offices in Middleton Street, Wymondham, or at the district council's offices at Swan Lane, Long Stratton.

Wymondham Town Council's annual parish meeting will be held at Fairland United Reformed Church on Tuesday at 7.30pm.

Mayor Len Elston will review events in the town over the last year and Alan Gomm, planning policy manager at South Norfolk Council has been invited to report on the progress of the Local Development Framework. Granville Smith and Ann Roberts will be launching the Strategic Plan - Wymondham's Future. The plan is a vision to take Wymondham forward over the next five years. It reflects the priorities of residents, public and private sector organisations.

There will also be an opportunity for residents to ask questions during the evening.
