One of Wymondham's longest serving stalwarts has been honoured for her work with the town's archive.

To mark her retirement as the Town Archivist, Janet Smith has been given the 2010 Civic Award.

Wymondham Mayor Colin Foulger presented her with the award at the annual general meeting of the Wymondham Archive Group.

Upon her retirement as Wymondham's librarian in 1989, Janet was invited by the town council to sort out its records.

The formal creation of the archive group came about 10 years ago following the death of local solicitor Bernard Gledhill as his family had a large quantity of documents to dispose of.

Janet is also known for her work with Wymondham Heritage Society and has given historical talks across Norfolk.

Mary Garner will now take over as the new Town Archivist.
