His love of drawing and storytelling is well-established, and now author and illustrator Chris Riddell has paid a visit to a village school to share his passion.

Mr Riddell, the UK’s current children’s laureate, spent a day at Rocklands Community Primary School talking to pupils about how he writes and draws.

Shena Scholes, from the school’s Friends of Rocklands School group, which organised the visit, said: “He spent about half-an-hour with each group talking about how he illustrates and writes.

“He was very engaging and the children sat still for the whole time he was talking.

“He had a big queue of children and parents who wanted to get his signature on is drawings at the end of the day, so that’s a testament to how engaging he was.”

Mr Riddell lives in Brighton and has a holiday house in Rockland.

As well as producing his own books, including those in the popular The Edge Chronicles, Mr Riddell is a political cartoonist for The Observer newspaper.

He has won three Kate Greenaway Medals, the British librarians’ annual award for the best-illustrated children’s book, which he also co-wrote with Paul Stewart.
