The national competition brought us Paul Potts, George Sampson, Diversity and Spellbound.
Now, eager hopefuls in south Norfolk are auditoning to be crowned champion in a talent show closer to home - Wymondham’s Got Talent.
The competition has already seen more than 70 entrants attend the initial audition rounds, showcasing a variety of the finest talents our area has to offer.
With a line-up ranging from singers and dancers to magicians, the list of finalists will be one not to be missed.
David Disney, chairman of the Wymondham Business Group, said that the inspiration for the competition came at a music festival last year.
“I was struck by the amount of local artists I saw busking last year as part of the Music Festival and thought what a great idea it would be to provide a platform to showcase and develop this budding talent we have in our area,” he said.
Entrants will grace the stage in the hopes of winning the £500 prize money, which will be presented at the Wymondham Carnival on July 26.
Over the next few months the numbers will be whittled down at a series of heats taking place at Wymondham High Academy.
The finals will kick off in June, before the overall winner is announced on July 19.
They will make their debut as winner and perform alongside the other finalists at Wymondham Carnival on July 26.
A firework display will wrap up the day’s festivities.
Mr Disney added: “The credit really has to go to the members of the Carnival committee who’ve worked tirelessly in bringing this vision to fruition, and the other directors of the WBG who’ve supported the project.”
This year the Wymondham Carnival will make its comeback after nearly two decades.
Wymondham’s Got Talent heats will cost £2 for entry, money which will go towards the funding of the carnival.
They will take place on various Fridays over the next few months - April 25, May 9, May 16, June 6 and June 13.
