The inquest into the death of a 50-year-old man who was killed in a head-on crash with a drunk driver will not go ahead.

Jonathan Watson, from Stowmarket, died in a crash on the A143 at Fritton, following a "violent head-on collision".

Mr Watson was the passenger in a VW Caddy van when a Mercedes driven by 40-year-old Graeme Harrison, attempted to overtake a lorry on the other side of the road.

The manoeuvre, described by a judge as a "dangerous overtake" saw Harrison, formerly of Reeve Way, Wymondham, drive directly into the path of Mr Watson.

Mr Watson, who was travelling towards Beccles, was taken to the James Paget University Hospital following the crash on October 23, 2021, but died of his injuries.

Criminal proceedings relating to the crash, after which Harrison was jailed for eight years last month, saw an inquest into Mr Watson's death adjourned.

However, at a hearing on Monday, senior coroner for Norfolk confirmed the case had been permanently suspended.

She said: "I am satisfied the evidence heard in the criminal court answered the questions the inquest sets out to answer."
