A rescue dog that "nearly died" after a violent kennel attack is looking for a new home in Norfolk.

Stitch was horrifically mauled by other dogs and left "badly injured" in a Romanian dog shelter after a volunteer "physically pulled another dog off of him".

He was rescued by the charity Safe Rescue for Dogs which is based in Wymondam.

Kelly Hare, a fosterer from the charity, said: "If we hadn’t intervened the other dog would not have stopped until he’d killed him."

Stitch is a large crossbreed, aged seven to eight years, and is described as "damaged by his past".

Needing several stitches from the severe injury he sustained to his stomach from the attack, Stitch has spent his first few weeks in the UK "depressed and shut down" during his recovery.

Shy and uncertain around people, Stitch's fosterers have said "he is warming up to the idea" of being adopted and gets on well with other dogs despite his ordeal.

Searching for a home in Norfolk, Stitch needs someone "who understands he may never be that dog that bounds forward with a wagging tail".

"He will allow you to stroke him if you insist but would currently prefer to avoid human touch."

In need of a second chance at life and "absolutely no trouble to have around", Stitch is available for adoption via the Safe for Rescue Dogs website.
