Virtual assistants have provided people with a new lease of control over their homes - now one council is offering what may be the most useful update, telling you what bins need taking out.
Breckland Council has launched a new service via the Amazon Alexa smart speaker which will let people find out more about council services, including which bin is due for collection.
People can ask when their bin collection day is, and what items can go in their recycling.

Breckland believes the new functionality is the first to be delivered by a Norfolk council but says this is just the beginning, with plans to improve the service using artificial intelligence (AI).
Achatbot will use artificial intelligence to 'learn' new answers as users ask more questions and with plans to roll out a similar tool to other smart speakers.
