A county councillor who successfully campaigned for a roundabout at a south Norfolk accident black spot yesterday said that safety lighting at the improved junction was still a possibility.
About 100 villagers took part in a protest earlier this month calling on Norfolk County Council to install lighting at the new roundabout on the A140 at Pulham Market.
But Beverley Spratt, Conservative county councillor for West Depwade division, said the extra 60,000 costs of lighting the area would have been a 'bridge too far' when the council was budgeting for the scheme. He added that the issue was 'still under review' by County Hall officers.
Work on the 1.5m roundabout, which is set to be officially opened on March 27, has almost been completed. The improvements come after 31 people were injured in collisions at the Pulham Market crossroads over the last ten years, five of them seriously.
