The Norfolk Women’s Cup final between Norwich City Ladies and Hethersett Athletic will be held at Dereham Town FC’s Aldiss Park ground tomorrow (Sunday), kick-off 2.30pm.

SE Combination side Norwich City Ladies have enjoyed great success in cup competitions over previous seasons but joint manager Emma Fletcher says they’ll not be underestimating their opponents on Sunday afternoon.

“The match will be a tough encounter and we will not underestimate the task that is ahead”, she said. “For a village side, Hethersett Athletic have achieved a considerable amount in the last few years.

“Whether you are a manager or a player, reaching a cup final is one of the goals you set at the start of the season. Our goal every season is to win the County Cup as it is a trophy that confirms who is the best team in Norfolk.”

Eastern Region League side Hethersett Athletic will be making their first appearance in a Women’s County Cup Final and manager Chris Bolderstone has been playing down their chances of causing an upset against the Canaries.

“Clearly Norwich are the favourites for this match, they have played at a higher level and are having a great season”, he said. “We expect them to be strong and technically very good, with some exceptional individual talents.

“For us, it is a chance to pit ourselves against a long established Club and look at what we need to do in order to progress to the next level of ladies football.”

“It’s a great honour to have led the team to their first ever County Cup Final, an experience that I hope we all remember and cherish for a long time. The girls have worked hard for this moment and deserve to fully enjoy the occasion and celebrate a fantastic achievement.

“It would be the most memorable achievement. We are going into the game with no delusions other than that we are second favourites, and a win would be a huge upset. The girls are talented, hungry, and a victory could give them the boost to carry on their development and progress to the next level.”
