These are exciting times for Wymondham Town, with the club’s men’s and women’s teams both chasing league and cup doubles.

The men will be attempting to book a night out at Carrow Road later this month when they take on Downham Town at the FDC in the semi-finals of the Norfolk Senior Cup.

Having beaten Thurlow Nunn Premier Division side Thetford Town in the previous round they should fancy their chances of springing an upset against a team who ply their trade in Division One.

Town play their league football in the second flight of the Anglian Combination and beat Cromer Town 5-2 at the weekend to go 12 points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

The match had been due to take place on Tuesday evening but the Norfolk FA opted to call the match off on Monday because of the wintry weather. It has been re-arranged for Tuesday, March 13 (7.30pm).

The success of the men’s side, who were struggling not so long ago, has been replicated by Wymondham Town Ladies who also have a county cup semi-final to look forward to against Sprowston on March 18.

Alex Guy’s side are also riding high in the Division One North of the East Anglian Women’s League, having won 10 and draw one of their 11 matches so far. Promotion to the Premier Division is the number one goal, but there has also been plenty of success in knock-out competitions too, with Wymomdham reaching the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup before losing 3-2 to Enfield Town from Women’s Premier League South East Division One.

They also had a good run in the League Cup before going out at Billericay on Sunday, with a 70th goal from Hope Strauss settling the issue.

“It’s good to see both teams doing so well and long may it continue,” said ladies’ coach Luke Worley. “It’s a good club to be involved with and the chairman (Joffy Garwood) is always really supportive. We have got a really good squad together, with around 45 players signed on for our first and reserve teams. Alex Guy has done a superb job as manager and I think his enthusiasm has rubbed off on the players. The girls have played really well this season and hopefully they will will soon have something to show for it.”
