Stefan Donnelly and his father Martin were due to face each other in the Lotus Elise UK Championship at Snetterton'’s opening race meeting of the 2014 season.

Stefan Donnelly will have to wait for another opportunity to race alongside his father Martin as their Lotus Elise’s engine blew up while qualifying for the Lotus Cup race at Snetterton when the former Formula One driver was at the wheel.

However, the younger Donnelly did get to race in Sunday’s Lotus Elise Trophy race in a borrowed car, but was stymied by an electrical fault in the first before completing the second.

Carlton Rode’s Gavan Kershaw gave local supporters something to cheer when he snatched the Production Class victory in the Lotus Cup race on the very last lap from Jason Baker, who ran short of fuel as Adam Balon held off Adrian Hall for the overall victory.

There was little to choose between Adam Gore, Jack Goff and Fulvio Mussi in the opening Lotus Elise race, with their position reversed in the second race while Terrington St John’s Seth Walpole finished 12th and ninth respectively.

Mulbarton’s Tristian Cliffe found the pace of newcomer Toby Sowery too hot as the local racer could only finish second in the opening F3 Cup race after an impressive passing manoeuvre which lasted several corners.

Sowery won again on Sunday with Cliffe having to battle through the field, after a poor start, for another second place.

While Kevin Waring won the opening Monoposto race, King’s Lynn’s Chris Levy secured a class victory, with both repeating their successes on Sunday after early leader Jason Timms bent his suspension after a grassy moment at Murrays.

Robbie Watts was a double winner in the Mono 2000 races, but only after Ben Cater had spun on oil at Riches in the first encounter just as he had slipped ahead of the eventual winner.

The Uren brothers, Adam and Ben, lost a certain Team Trophy victory when their Seat Cupra broke a driveshaft allowing Matthew Weymouth to take advantage while in the Trackday Trophy Jason and Tony Jones triumphed.
