Liberal Democrats in South Norfolk have called in a decision by council leaders to spend more than £550,000 on a Big Society project.
The district council is looking to spend £560,000 in 2012/13, which will be ploughed into its five neighbourhood boards as part of a Localism project.
Tory leaders are also looking to freeze the council tax precept in the forthcoming financial year to £130.68 on an average band D property.
However, the South Norfolk Liberal Democrat group are proposing that council tax can be reduced by 2pc by reducing the Localism funding from £560,000 to £440,000.
The call in will be discussed at a special scrutiny committee on Monday.
A full council meeting will set South Norfolk Council’s 2012/13 budget on Wednesday night.

A council that can spend 700K.000 on legal fees which could have been avoidable, has now been asked to join legal services, that alone is worth reducing the council tax, without this show fight in front of voters, this perceived differences, when there is none, its their coalition politics that is proffered here.

I have read about this scheme and it is not a project at all, it is all about the council spending more money on services in the local area - that can't be a bad thing. I watched a programme where councils ceased to exists as a trial in a town - after seeing that, I certainly do not want all the council services taken away! Also, just to correct Harry, it is £130 a year on council tax for South Norfolk, not a month, so just over £10 a month.

Council tax is still far too high. It is very easy to spend other people's money on grandiose projects.Councillors whatever political label they wear would do well to be reminded that council tax is money extracted from people who can't really afford it and would prefer councils to cease to exist rather than finding £130 a month to fund their pensions and expenses.
