Norfolk Constabulary have, in partnership with the county’s fire service, established the memorial to remember those officers and staff who have died in service since 2017.

A police spokesman said: “Departed colleagues will now forever be commemorated outside the front of Norfolk Police Headquarters in Wymondham on a new memorial wall.

“A dedication service , conducted by the force’s Lead Chaplain Richard Whall, was held on Thursday, September 20, attended by families and ex-colleagues of officers and staff.

“The wall features the name of the officers and members of staff who have died while serving with Norfolk Constabulary or Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service since the start of 2017, with each of them commemorated with an individual plaque on the memorial wall.”

Details of the new memorial were revealed by chief constable Simon Bailey during the annual Norfolk Safer Community Awards (NOSCAs) held in Norwich last week.

Speaking at the event, held on Thursday at the Holiday Inn hotel at Norwich Airport, he said: “This year, Norfolk Constabulary in partnership with the fire service, have established a memorial wall in memory of police officers, specials and staff members who have died in service since 2017.

“This is a dedicated space outside of headquarters where we can gather to reflect on their lives and lasting legacies.”

Mr Bailey said it was also a place where family and friends of those who had passed away could come to pay their respects.

Names which appear on the wall include former Norwich officer PC Andrew Moniz and also Dean Piper who was formerly a retained firefighter.

The eight names appearing on the wall are:

Mr Chris Shepherd

Ms Sue Burnett-Thomas

Mrs Michelle Harrison

PC 253 Andrew Moniz

Mrs Val Newson

Firefighter Dean Piper

Mr Bailey has backed a national campaign to raise funds for a new police memorial launched following the Westminster terror attack during which PC Keith Palmer was murdered while on duty.
