When it comes to ploughing the usual thought is of tractors in fields on a misty morning, but never that of a competition.

But now, a Ploughing Match Day has raised more than £1,000 for charity in Spooner Row, 10 miles south of Wymondham.

The group of keen ploughers raised £1,247 for the Norfolk and Norwich Liver Group.

The day was organised by Gerald Warnes who has run the annual ploughing matches for the past 16 years.

But this years event was almost called off after heavy rain - which means the land can not be ploughed.

In total, 35 tractors took part and a raffle was held by Andrew and Julie Clarke of Manor Farm, Wattlefield.

Liver Group Chairman, Bill Dingle, said: ”In spite of the weather the tractor people and a heavy horse arrived and did their stuff.

“I would like to thank everyone including the stall holders for their valiant efforts.”
