Norfolk film and television convention to raise money for charity set up in memory of Hethersett youngster Finnbar Cork

With a galaxy of characters from Star Wars, comic books and TV, it was an event he would have loved to have gone to.

But tragically five-year-old Finnbar Cork died from a brain tumour months before he could attend NOR-CON, a television, film and comic convention, at the Norfolk Showground Arena.

Now, a year later, Finnbar is to be honoured after convention bosses said they would donate money from this year’s event to a charity which has been set up in his memory.

Following the Hethersett youngster’s death his parents Tristan and Claire set up Finnbar’s Force to help and support other children and families affected by brain tumours.

Tristan, 35, said it was “brilliant news” they had been selected as the chosen charity for this year’s event, which takes place on Saturday October 7 and Sunday, October 8.

He said: “It’s really, really nice that they’ve chosen us.

“Last year they phoned us to invite us along but unfortunately at the time Finnbar was

waiting to go into hospital for radiotherapy.

“Although he had a slight improvement after his radiotherapy sadly he was never well enough to have gone and he died a couple of months before it was held.

“I never really imagined

that a year later we would be asked to be the charity. It feels good to be chosen as their charity.”

He added: “It just seems unbelievable that two years ago that two years ago this is an event Finnbar would’ve loved to have gone to - it would’ve been right up his street.

“It’s just a shame we weren’t able to get him there. But in terms of the charity its just brilliant news. Its just so nice to feel that we’re being supported by the local community.”

Mark Dean, director of NOR-CON Events Limited, said they look to support local good causes as opposed to

big national charities and thought the event was something Finnbar would have loved.

Game of Thrones actor Paul Kaye, Anjli Mohindra from the Sarah Jane Adventures, Chris Barrie, who played Rimmer in Red Dwarf and singer and actress Toyah Wilcox are among the stars who will be appearing at NOR-CON.
