A go-kart racing youngster from Bunwell, near Attleborough, will be able to keep his dream of becoming a Formula One driver alive after a sponsor was found at the last minute.

Logan Howes, aged seven, has been racing in the BKC Karting Championship with strong results throughout the season. But due to the high cost of the sport the family have needed support from sponsors to keep racing.

James Howes, Logan’s father, had feared that they would have to pull out of the last two races of the season and created a Gofundme page in the hope they could raise enough money.

Luckily, as they promoted the page Danny Wilkinson, director of MW Surfacing, based in Attleborough, saw Logan’s cry for help and stepped forward as a sponsor.

Mr Howes said: “They [MW Surfacing] wanted to step up and help out to get Logan to the final two races of the season and potentially look into backing him into the 2019 season too.

“It all happened so fast and they decided that they wanted to help, as parents me and Sherrell Howes are absolutely blown away buy this generosity.”

Logan, who goes to Carleton Rode Primary School, is now at the age where he is able to move into the next class of karting but it would make him the youngest driver to be a cadet in the BKC.

His first season in professional go-karts as been one of highs and lows. He has scored points in a number of races but his confidence was damaged after having to avoid a stricken kart at 40mph, crashing into the barriers during a test session earlier in the year.

But the youngster pushed on through the year and is now looking forward to the final races of the season.

Mr Howes added: “It has taken a lot of pressure off and put a fresh spring in Logan’s step as he was devastated to be told that he couldn’t compete in the final to races of the championship.

“To us, Logan has exceeded in the points table to where we expected him to finish and with the points being so close all around there’s a good chance of him climbing the table to take a few more places if he performs well.

“It’s been a rough year but there are good people out there willing to help those that are struggling.”

Logan hopes to be able to compete in the 2019 season.
