A mum who has been fighting cancer since May is over the moon to have been able to spend Christmas Day at home with her family.

Rebecca Turner, 31, spent six months in hospital fighting stage three melanoma cancer and was thrilled to be able to return home for Christmas while she has a break from treatment.

Rebecca, from Hethersett, was very worried about whether she would make it to the big day due to fighting a chest infection, but she was thrilled to spend the day with her family.

She said: “It was magical.

“To be able to see Arielle run downstairs on Christmas morning and see that Santa had been was the best feeling ever and it felt so special that I was there to see it.”

But Rebecca’s day wasn’t entirely how she thought it would be.

Lots of pain and exhaustion meant she had to lay down and call out a district nurse so she missed out on some of her plans but her family were just glad to have her there in whatever capacity she could manage.

She said: “I think I've just been so excited about everything being perfect that I've done too much in the lead up and I'm just completely exhausted now.”

Just in case she had to return to hospital Rebecca made sure to do lots of Christmassy experiences with daughter Arielle and partner Jonny during the lead up including a festive trip on the Broads and the North Norfolk Railway.

And due to her tiredness, Rebecca wasn’t able to open all of her presents so she had more surprises on Boxing Day.

She said: “I am just so glad to have been here and I hope to be able to enjoy our plans for the rest of the week.”
